Sarmad, songwriter band leader, composer got into songwriting and music composition while he was living in Toronto. He joined Merriam music school in Oakville, Toronto to learn music theory and song writing. During that time, he was actively performing with various tribute bands in Local Toronto Music scene. He made an “Iron Maiden” tribute band, with local musicians, who were into British Heavy metal music. He also auditioned and sang for various grunge bands to explore different musical genres, to get to know more about musical genres.

He formed“The Sarmuds”, an Indo-Canadian rock genre band back in 2012, in Toronto, Canada. As a Singer, Songwriter, Multi-instrumentalist and composer, he had to do a lot of things on his own.

At first there were not permanent members in the bands opening acts in local scenes, with no permanent member, mostly all session players. But being Multi-instrumentalists helped him a lot a long way in journey.  He wrote and composed his own songs, and had session players to play on the gigs, for the most part. During his free, learned vocals from legendry singer “Ustad Shahid Ali Khan” deciple of late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali khan. Shahid Ali khan, also did chants for the background score music of “The Passion for Christ”, directed by Mel Gibson.

During that time he was actively performing with various tribute bands in local Toronto Music Scene, and opening acts in local scenes, with no permanent member, mostly all session players. Being an Architect, and graduate from two world renowned Art schools, he always wanted to explore other sides of Creative arts, which intrigued him to learn creative writing and storytelling, which opened more doors for him to work for local radios to get connected with the industry.

Previously, Sarmad lived in North America, and while living in Toronto, Canada, he did a diploma in musicology and learned song writing, from Merriam Music School, in Oakville, Ontario. He formed a band called “The Sarmuds” and actively performed in local scene.  Being an architect, he always wanted to explore creative arts and other aspects of performing arts.  He learned creative writing and storytelling from renowned acting school, the Second City in Toronto. He worked voluntarily with the FM radio, University of Toronto, to know more about the music business, there he work for local radios to get connected with the industry.
