“The Ghulab Janamz”, is an alternative Rock band formed by Sarmad a singer, songwriter, architect, educator and composer, born in Lahore, Pakistan. The band was formed back in 2016, in Lahore, Pakistan, when he Idrees Ahmed, at a small gig, for the first time.
Previously, Sarmad lived in North America, and while living in Toronto, Canada, he did a diploma in musicology and learned song writing, from Merriam Music School, in Oakville, Ontario. He formed a band called “The Sarmuds” and actively performed in local scene. Being an architect, he always wanted to explore creative arts and other aspects of performing arts. He learned creative writing and storytelling from renowned acting school, the Second City in Toronto.
He worked voluntarily with the FM radio, University of Toronto, to know more about the music business, there he work for local radios to get connected with the industry. Due to some family issues, he came back to his homeland, Pakistan. Here he found a job as an instructor at local architectural school where he shared his experiences with students. After that he established his own studios for music with all the basic facilities and also a small architectural office at home to look for some interesting projects for his profile.Being an internationally experienced and professionally trained Artist, Sarmad, started to meet and audition different artists to complete the songs. At the same time, he was struggling to finance the album and set of songs, he had in mind. Prior to that, he had acquaintance with renowned musicians and sessions player in the Lahore city.
While doing so, he met Ken Zerrick, drummer for Jal and Farhan saeed, who introduced him to Amir Ajmal, an amazing composer, producer and session player. They both started working together, on the songs, Sarmad initially wanted to sing the songs, but later decided to audition different singers for the lead singer role. Later on, he met Idrees Ahmed, while attending a music session at Alhamra Arts Council. Idrees Ahmed proved to be a great fit, with his deep baritone voice high vocal range.
